It seems counterintuitive, but there are some shows still currently playing on Broadway that are, shall we say, less than popular. We’re not talking about gigantic flops, necessarily (I’m looking in your direction, Lysistrata Jones), but shows like Sister Act and Godspell are not exactly knocking the walls down. Yet they’re still playing. The reasons behind this are rather myriad, but an easy way of saying it is that “hit” no longer means what it used to, and (is this another aspect of globalization?) now producers have to consider potential runs through Europe and Asia.
