Ah, the film festival. Repository of such a wealth of dreams, such pure expression, such an overwhelming number of films. Jesus but are there a lot of films floating around. What makes the New Directors/New Films Festival – which begins its 41st edition this evening at 7 at the Museum of Modern Art with a screening of the Lebanon-set Where Do We Go Now? – fairly unique is that the filmmakers here featured are rookies and stringers, for the most part, just setting out into the wide world of film. Get in early, people; recognizable names from earlier editions of NDNF include Spielberg, Almodovar, Sayles and Wong Kar-Wei. (A.O. Scott, The New York Times)
