At an age when most people are squarely in their dotage, 84-year-old Herbert Blomstedt is ramping up his appearance schedule. No longer attached to one orchestra, Blomstedt’s been acting as sort of an orchestral free agent for the last few years, flitting back and forth across the Atlantic to conduct orchestras both here and abroad. It’s Philadelphia’s turn this weekend; beginning tonight, Blomstedt will conduct a program of Beethoven at the head of the Philly Orchestra, with guest pianist Leif Ove Andsnes.
