A play set three decades in the past, but in a place whose struggles are very much of the moment, is the latest addition to La Jolla Playhouse’s 2012-13 season.
The theater has just announced it will stage J.T. Rogers’ “Blood and Gifts,” a “part thriller, part black comedy” (in the words of Playhouse artistic director Christopher Ashley) that delves into the 1980s war between the Soviet Union and the mujahideen of Afghanistan.
