Ringing True

Miami Theater Center (MTC) is proud to present Ringing True, the second Sandbox Series performance of the 2015-2016 season. A one-woman musical with a live band, Ringing True will be presented at the SandBox, an intimate black-box theater next to MTC’s main stage.

Written and performed by Rebecca Joy Fletcher in collaboration with Miami director Michael Yawney and acclaimed off-Broadway music director Bob Goldstone, Ringing True tells the almost true story of how Rebecca was given the best con of her life. When an old woman hands her a brass wedding ring, it sets Rebecca off on a tilt-a-whirl odyssey through Paris, and leads her to find true gold. The characters she meets range from ancient Talmudic rabbis to a chic Parisian dominatrix, each singing in his or her own signature style — and all played by Rebecca herself.  The show’s music is quirky and eclectic, ranging from rockabilly to Hassidic prayer chants to chanson; it’s played by a three-piece band showcasing some of Miami’s finest musicians.

Ringing True was developed in Chicago in 2014 thanks to a Wexner Foundation collaboration grant. This production marks Fletcher’s theatrical debut in South Florida. It is also her most personal show to date.  Fletcher has performed at such renowned venues as Lincoln Center; Paris’ La Vieille Grille Theatre; Montreal’s Segal Centre; the Metropolitan Room in New York City; Chicago’s Piven Theater; Los Angeles’ American Jewish University; Jerusalem’s Martef Theater; and London’s Jewish Cultural Center.

The SandBox Series is presented with support from a generous Knight Arts Challenge Grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor, and Board of County Commissioners.  Performances of Ringing True will take place at the SandBox, next to MTC’s MainStage, located at 9806 NE 2nd Avenue in Miami Shores.  Tickets to Ringing True are $25 and may be purchased online at www.mtcmiami.org or by calling 305.751.9550. Group, student, and senior ticket prices are available.
