Short Attention Span Theater Threatens to Become the New Norm

Because there is no such thing as too much outrage about the future and this new generation of self-obsessed bubbleheads, here again is a look at the new trend of “TweetSeats”, a very cute way of saying “two dozen people obnoxiously updating their tweet stream in real time as the play/opera/symphony unfolds in front of them.” Which is mostly a marketing ploy, because we have become too ‘savvy’ for ‘advertising’, because the ‘truth’ is always ‘told’ on ‘Yelp’ and ‘Facebook.’ One twethead from the San Francisco Playhouse even says, “Whoever follows along gets my direct stream of thought,” because that is what we should want, to have someone else‘s train of thought instead of our own. Serious question: How does this make any sense at all? Why the hell would anyone potentially interested in the theater, or the opera, or whatever, rely on a TWITTER STREAM to determine whether or not to go check something out? Attendance is down across the board! GO SEE A SHOW FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. Enough of this, no more about Twitter, ever, the end. (FULL ARTICLE: Karen D’Souza, San Jose Mercury News)
