Atlanta Opera
Although opera in Atlanta predates Sherman’s march to the sea, the Atlanta Opera began in 1979. Originally the Atlanta Civic Opera, it was renamed in 1985 during a reorganization. Between 1995 and 2003 the company performed in the 4518-seat Fox Theatre, the country’s largest indoor operatic venue, a Moorish-themed national historic landmark.
