Odysseo by Cavalia

I caught the local premiere of Cavalia at Marymoor Park last night. If you see only one show this year, make it this one. In addition to the astonishing stagecraft of this show–which includes 80,000 gallons of water–the simple relationship of humans and horses is celebrated. The audience’s eyes were as flooded as the stage.

Odysseo by Cavalia is a 30-million dollar ode to horses and humans created by Normand Latourelle, one of the co-founders of Cirque du Soleil. An audience of 2000 attended the blend of equestrian arts, performing arts and high-tech theatrical effects. Sharing the stage with 52 riders, acrobats, aerialists and musicians, the 66 magnificent horses stole the spotlight.

More than 400 VIP patrons sampled a buffet dinner and desserts prepared by Odysseo head chef Yves Babineau in the Rendez-Vous VIP lounge, sipping on beer, wine and champagne. After the show, they were invited to a stable tour to meet the four-legged stars, followed by a reception.

Due to strong ticket sales, six performances have been added to the limited engagement of the show, which will now run until March 16, 2014. Tickets are on sale online at www.cavalia.net, by calling 1-866-999-8111 or at the box office on site at King County’s Marymoor Park.
