Although mostly known for the sounds of Motown, Detroit has a long and storied classical music scene. At the center, is the world-class Detroit Symphony Orchestra, under music director Leonard Slatkin. Not to be outshined, there are also the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings, several regional orchestras, chamber music at the Scarab Club, the Brazeal Dennard Chorale, the Vangaurd Voices, and renowned student musicians from the University of Michigan, Oakland University, and Wayne State University.
Southeast Michigan is also home to some of the world’s finest music venues, including the DSO’s Orchetra Hall, the Fox Theatre, Music Hall, the Detroit Opera House, and Ann Arbor’s Hill Auditorium, just to name a few. (Kevin Wilt)
