Durang & Ayvazian: In Their Own Words

Come hear two critically acclaimed playwrights – Christopher Durang and Leslie Ayvazian –  read from their own scripts.  CityWrights presents this rare opportunity to hear these two amazing playwrights share their work in an event called In Their Own Words, at the EPIC Hotel in Downtown Miami on Saturday, June 16th.   It doesn’t get much cooler than an evening with Durang and Ayvazian live!

Christopher Durang is well known for his outrageous and absurd comedies; and has received three Obie Awards, has been a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, received a Tony Award nomination, and was the 2008 honoree at the William Inge Festival.  His plays include Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All For You, Beyond Therapy, Baby With the Bathwater, The Nature and Purpose of the Universe, Titanic, A History of the American Film, The Idiots Karamazov, The Marriage of Bette and Boo, Laughing Wild, ‘Dentity Crisis, The Actor’s Nightmare, The Vietnamization of New Jersey, Betty’s Summer Vacation, Naomi in the Living Room, Adrift in Macao, Mrs. Bob Crotchet’s Wild Christmas Binge, Miss Witherspoon, and Why Torture is Wrong, and the People Who Love Them.

Leslie Ayvazian has won the John Gassner/Outer Critics Award for Best New Play, the Roger L. Stevens Award, and has twice been a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.   Her plays include Nine Armenians, Rosemary and I, Make Me, High Dive, Deaf Day, Mama Drama, Singer’s Boy and Twenty Four Years. In addition to her writing achievements, Ayvazian is an accomplished actress and teacher. She also has appeared in the films Working Girl, Alice and Regarding Henry, and is a recurring guest star in the Law and Order series. Ayvazian will be reading from her brand new script; while Durang will be reading from established works.

Tickets to In Their Own Words are $15, with half of the proceeds donated to the South Florida Theatre League. The readings start promptly at 6:00 PM, and there is a cash bar available on site. Complimentary wine is available in the EPIC lobby before the performances.  The EPIC Hotel is located in Downtown Miami at 270 Biscayne Boulevard Way.
