Salome

SALOME

Come hear glorious music, witness a compelling story, and watch spectacular dance. It’s a complete opera experience. When Salome premiered it was so disturbing that it was banned in Vienna and London, and later in New York. Salome’s combination of eroticism and religion were appealing and appalling to early audiences. Today’s audiences are less easily shocked, but Salome has lost none of its power to send shivers through the theater.

In his palace in ancient Judea, King Herod lusts after the beautiful princess Salome, who flirts but repeatedly rejects him. After prodding, Salome agrees to dance when the King promises she can have any wish she wants. Her “Dance of the Seven Veils” turns out to have a bloody price.

Featuring sopranos Melody Moore (Jan 27, Jan 30, Feb 3, & Feb 8) and Kirsten Chambers (Jan 28, Feb 2, & Feb 10), who have graced opera stages across the globe, and are now debuting in Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
