The All-American Genderf*ck Cabaret

Thinking Cap Theatre kicks off their third season with playwright Mariah MacCarthy’s indie-theatre hit, The All-American Genderf*ck Cabaret, a play with a naughty title, but a nice and still much needed message of live and let live.

This comic and pointed play explores the full gamut of gender stereotypes, including the Man-hating lesbian, the Tomboy, the Fairy, the Slut, the Player, the Sensitive Guy, the Girly girl, and the Manly man. Playful in style, the piece is part dramedy, part cabaret, guided by an androgynous, omnipotent MC, who follows the other eight characters as they blossom from stereotypes into genuine human beings.

Biting yet compassionate, this piece skewers everything from feminism to sexting; acquaintance rape to infidelity; homophobia to assault; and loneliness to the ridiculous ways we seek affection. In the end, the sharp edges of caricature soften; connection replaces spectacle; and all discover that in a world polarized by gender stereotypes bodies, like books, should not be judged by their covers.

Performance dates for this Thinking Cap Theatre production of The All-American Genderf*ck Cabaret are 9/27 – 10/13. Tickets for adults are $25, Tickets for Military & Seniors (60 and over) are $22.  Tickets for Students 25 and under w/ valid student ID are $10.
