A big weekend for local dance in Pittsburgh!

Image from Attack Theatre's website

Two local companies are presenting new works this weekend in Pittsburgh.

Gia T. Presents, the company of improviser Gia Cacalano, will be performing in BLINK with dancers England/Amsterdam’s Vincent Cacalano, New York’s Wendell Cooper and Philadelphia musician Michael McDermott as well as a cast of local performers–Jil Stifel, Jeff Berman, David Bernabo, Hill Jordan and Dr. Nelson Harrison. BLINK is an interdisciplinary improvised score with live music done in response to and performed in the installation “In Transit” at Wood Street Galleries Downtown. The work premiered last night and will be performed again tonight at 8pm. For ticketing information visit the Wood Street Galleries website.

On the North Shore, Attack Theatre premiered Traveling last night in conjunction with the celebration of the 45th birthday of Producing Artistic Director Peter Kope. The work follows a traveling salesman and promises to be full of fresh movement and fun with live music by local indy-band the New Victorians. Check out the work tonight at or tomorrow afternoon at the New Hazlett Theater. For ticketing information visit the Attack Theatre website.

I encourage you to see either or both of these productions. Mad props to both companies for collaborating with musicians and using live music in their work.
