American Film Institute (AFI) Silver Theatre and Cultural Center

Located a little north of Washington, D.C. in Silver Spring, Maryland, the AFI Silver movie theater complex has three screens that showcase both mainstream flicks and the usual art-house fare. Originally designed by architect John Eberson and opened in 1938, the theater was recently restored and reopened in 2003.

Warehouse Theater (Downtown Art Complex)

Formerly a multi-arts venue that booked rock bands, screened the work of local filmmakers, hosted small film festivals and generally brought a little taste of the avant-garde to downtown DC, skyrocketing rents have forced the Downtown Art Complex to scale itself back recently.
